James Latham plc began importing hardwoods into Liverpool in 1757, and under the continuing management of the Latham family, the company has developed into a leading distributor of quality timber, panel products and
hardwood flooring. Among its extensive range of hardwood flooring products is Bausen, which is fast becoming the market leading brand within this quality sector, with customers asking for it by name. Bausen prides itself on high standards of manufacture through the use of modern technology to achieve the best finish from these selected natural wood species and all flooring has a micro bevel profile giving completed floors a consistent joint detail. The flooring is offered in a range of finishes: lacquered, brushed
and oiled and an increasingly popular super matt lacquer.

Species available include white oak, beech, maple, birch and walnut, plus a ‘distressed’ range of hand scraped golden oak, dark oak and bronze oak to name just a few, to suit all sorts of construction or interior design projects for the domestic and commercial markets. The division also has an up-to-date price guide, detailing information on the entire range of flooring products available.

Part of the Bausen range has recently obtained the Q Mark assurance of quality, indicating exceptional standards. Bausen is the first of its kind to a hold a Q Mark – a certification scheme operated by BM Trade Certification Ltd.

James Latham recognises its responsibility to the environment and was the first to sign up to the Timber Trade Federation’s Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP), and all its sales depots have been awarded Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) accreditation.

The Bausen range includes products that have third party certification. PEFC Engineered One Strip Plank is available in a variety of species, while the Manor Oak range of solid flooring is FSC. Whenever possible, high quality third party certified products are added to the range to meet the demands of its customers.

Latham’s continues to seek ways to improve its products and has recently started to sell Creom moisture suppressant through its national network of branches. Creom is a quick acting, non-toxic, environmentally friendly moisture suppressant that enables recently laid and refurbished concrete floors to be speedily brought into use. Creom is used where residual sub-floor moisture levels are high. It is quickly and easily applied using a lambswool roller or spray. It is water-based, requires no mixing or special safety procedures. Drying times are
typically 1-4 hours which means that the 2 coat process can be completed within one working day. Creom is extremely cost effective and offers benefits and features not found in conventional epoxy systems. In addition, labour costs and application times are significantly reduced.

Richard Pickles, group flooring manager at Lathams, commented: “We have chosen to stock Creom as it is solvent free and is one of the safest products to use, and it is also very easy to use. It is important that moisture in concrete is controlled when fitting a floor above it, and we are confident that Creom is the best product for this job.”
